Ahyanna Nakia, Creator of House of Remnant Soul

Her creative energy was passed down to her from her father who encouraged her to appreciate art in geometric patterns and textiles. As a self-taught jewelry designer and textile artist she continues to explore ways on how to manipulate remnant pieces of textiles and raw materials. 

She has participated in numerous events throughout Jacksonville, Florida. Ahyanna has taught young girls how to make beautiful stylish accessories using remnant pieces of discarded material including tape, leather, fabric, and metal. Her passion and technique allowed them to see the beauty in the simplest things. She has also given free classes at selected schools, the Downtown Jacksonville Library located in Jacksonville, Florida and Ritz Theatre and Museum on how to create culture paper mache dolls using newspaper and African textiles. She is a fashion and jewelry designer of one of kind custom made pieces that is considered wearable art.

The highlight of her career was her first exhibit in 2018 a recipient of “Through Our Eyes”, “Celebrating 25years Journey to South Africa Struggle and Resistance, Cultural Exchange. One of her pieces titled “Ancestors Return Home” was selected to travel to The Nelson Mandela Museum in South Africa. From there the doors opened and allowed her to exhibit her works in galleries throughout Jacksonville.

Ahyanna believes there’s no limit to the talents you posses. You can either create it to be vibrant and one of a kind or you have the choice to blend in. Either way you, “Design Your Own Pattern in Life.”
